Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland chairman Dawson Wilkie said the growth in RPEQ numbers was positive, and that BPEQ expected there to be 15,000 RPEQs in the coming years.

“BPEQ has been active in engaging with the engineers to promote the necessity and benefit of registration and we are seeing the positive results from that engagement in the growth of RPEQs in Queensland, interstate and overseas,” Wilkie said.

“As BPEQ chair I’ve had the opportunity to travel around the state and meet with engineers from various disciplines who are overwhelmingly positive about registration.

“Engineering will to continue to be a very important profession as Queensland develops and grows and we expect to reach 15,000 RPEQs in the not too distant future.”

Wilkie said BPEQ was working on various proposals to promote registration and engage with engineers, including a regional board meeting and social function with engineers based on the Sunshine Coast later in the year.

BPEQ is also set to participate in and sponsor various industry and university events with the aim of promoting RPEQ and educating engineers about their professional obligations.

Wilkie said BPEQ will continue to work with voluntary organisations to support the profession and that RPEQ status complemented voluntary accreditation such as FIEAust, CPEng or RPEng.
