In a bulletin issued Monday, the agency said a Sandvik (formerly Eimco) 582 scoop was recently cited under its 30 CFR 75.523-3 regulation because the parking brake did not release when the hand pump was operated.
MSHA believes the same violation may exist on other 580/582 model machines and has provided model details to the US industry.
“These scoops have been in the field for years and the braking systems may have already been modified to fix the hand pump feature,” officials said.
Operations should check the parking brake system on all Eimco 580/582 scoops in use to verify compliance with all provisions of 30 CFR 75.523-3, which includes the hand pump brake release feature.
