“Mine management reported that a vehicle transporting workers during a change of shift rolled over at approximately 6.50am resulting in the fatality,” a Department of Natural Resources and Mines spokesperson said.
“Two mines inspectors and a principal investigation officer from the department are at the mine and will investigate the nature and cause of the accident.”
A BMA spokeswoman said the company was supporting the authorities, as well as providing assistance to the man's family and colleagues.
"Our colleague was a father of two and a grandfather to two," she said.
Operations at the mine have been temporarily suspended.
"We are also conducting our own investigations to understand how this incident could have occurred and to ensure every action is taken to prevent something similar in future," the spokeswoman said.
