The utility said late Wednesday in a request for proposals that it was seeking 50,000t to 100,000t, give or take about 20%, for delivery during the first three quarters of the year.

NSP is being very specific on its needs, requesting sulphur of 0.65% to 1.1%, moisture of 7% to 9%, ash of 7% to 9%, volatile matter of 34% (30% minimum) and a British thermal unit rating of 10,800Btu per pound to 13,400Btu/lb, all on an as-received basis.

The RFP is the utility’s second in four months. It issued another solicitation in June for 50,000-200,000t, plus or minus 20%, for the third and fourth quarters of this year or 2014 delivery.

Those interested in the latest RFP have until October 23 at noon local time to submit bids, and all figures must remain valid through November 7.

NSP’s 2000-plus megawatt facility portfolio includes Lingan, Point Aconi, Point Tupper, Trenton and Tulfs Cove.
