The German consulting and engineering company acquired Kai Balta as part of its global growth strategy in the resources and infrastructure sector.

When completed in March, Kai Balta will become part of DMT’s International Mining consulting division and be renamed DMT Kai Balta.

DMT Kai Balta will lead the expansion of DMT’s services in Africa.

Kai Balta managing director Avinash Bisnath and technical director Sodhie Naicker will both maintain their positions.

DMT Kai Balta’s board will be joined by Bernd Teigler of Germany, Chris Well from the UK, and TN Gunaseelan from India.

Bisnath said the merger would transform the landscape of the consulting industry in South Africa by introducing specialist skills typically not found there.

DMT Kai Balta plans to reinforce its presence in South Africa.
