The jury is set to meet privately from Tuesday to Thursday in the federal courthouse in Raleigh to examine documents, video and other materials, along with Duke executives and 18 current and former North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources employees.

In the US federal court system grand juries can conduct investigations as well as decide whether to indict a person or company on alleged criminal activity.

It is uncertain whether the jury’s discussions will be made public but a record of the proceedings, either written or electronic, must be kept.
