US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz attended the two-day summit to develop strategies to speed up the development of clean energy sources and the adoption of energy efficient technologies in developing nations.
Moniz told Bloomberg’s Business Week that Ethiopia’s prime minister had congratulated and thanked the US delegation for the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule to cut carbon emissions by 30% by 2030 from 2005 standards.
He said the chief economist for the International Energy Agency also applauded the ruling.
According to Bloomberg, Moniz was surprised by how strongly the summit attendees were focused on the need for reduce climate change.
However, Africa is known to be one of the regions that is most vulnerable to climate-related disasters.
