The $8 million upgrade opened to traffic on Monday.

The project involved extending the right-turn lane at the Bruce Highway and Lucketts Road intersection and installing traffic signals at the highway’s intersection with Goodwood Road to serve growing traffic volumes.

Hazell Bros also relocated the Bruce Highway and Butchers Road intersection a short distance south to ensure the safety of turning vehicles.

Works were carried out under traffic and took five months to complete.

“These important works will make a tremendous difference for the more than 6500 motorists and truck drivers who use this section of the highway each day,” Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said.

“From Brisbane to Cairns, the Bruce Highway is the backbone of Queensland.

“The federal government will deliver more than $900 million for further safety works on the highway, starting this financial year, to address issues such as this old intersection."

The Queensland government promised $768 million to upgrade the Bruce Highway in its 2014-15 budget.

The road project will also receive assistance from the federal government, with it allocating $13.4 billion to help complete some of Queensland’s large road and rail projects, including the Bruce Highway.

The Bruce Highway is a major infrastructural link in Queensland and is about 1700km long.
