Delaney will join Coffey's Newcastle office as of April 23 and will be responsible for servicing both geotechnical and mining clients in the Newcastle area and the Hunter Valley.

Formerly a principal engineering geologist and director of RCA Australia, Delaney has more than 20 years experience working on diverse projects.

According to Coffey, his expertise covers geotechnical investigation, investigation and design for major road projects, stability and risk assessment of natural and excavated slopes and embankments, geotechnical investigation methodology and subsurface modelling, mining infrastructure and highwall stability, urban capability and terrain assessments, and reactive and acid sulfate soils.

Delaney has worked for the Australian Rail Track Corporation, undertaking slope stability risk assessments and design of remedial works in the Hunter Valley and southern New South Wales.

Chief operating officer Matt Thomas said Delaney would play a vital role in the Newcastle office, servicing Coffey's clients with both geotechnical and mining.
