BHP ferrous and coal division chief executive Marcus Randolph confirmed the successful headhunt Friday, announcing that van Dalsen will be the company’s new president of metallurgical coal, effective February 2 next year.

“Hubie has a long and distinguished career in the mining industry and his depth of knowledge and experience will be an asset to the company,” he said.

“I look forward to working with him to further develop and enhance our metallurgical coal business."

Meanwhile, Dave Murray, who currently holds the position of acting president of metallurgical coal and energy coal, will lose the “metallurgical” title and remain as energy coal president.

The former managing director of Rio Tinto subsidiary Coal & Allied has almost 20 years experience in various operational, business development, project development, finance and executive leadership roles.
