In a statement released to the Australian Securities Exchange, Wesfarmers said a full investigation into the cause of the incident had been initiated by the mine’s management and independent assessors, including government work safety authorities.

As one of five of the mine’s draglines, Wesfarmers said an estimate of costs associated with repairing the damaged dragline and the impact on the mine’s operations would be provided when available.

Wesfarmers public affairs manager Kent Beasley told ILN the injured worker was released from Blackwater Hospital this morning.

He could not provide further details of the incident or its ramifications at this stage.
