Out of all of Xstrata’s coal operations in the state, the Rolleston thermal coal mine was the most affected by the devastating wet season.

While water was pumped out of the pit, the mine’s rail link has been out of action since late December.

Trains were due to arrive at the mine for the first time in 2011 yesterday, an Xstrata spokesman was quoted as saying in a report by The Australian newspaper.

As of last week, the spokesman was hoping the rail repairs would be complete by the end of this month.

The big Rolleston dragline operation can produce up to 8 million tonnes per annum run-of-mine.
