In an update on its tonnage, Cockatoo said the open cut mine had a total of 6.3 million tonnes of resources, including 1.8Mt indicated in the mining licence, which has decreased since the last report due to production.
Exploration a few hundred metres north of the mine has uncovered 1.7Mt of inferred resources in MLA 80157 while a little further north in MDL 184, drilling has established 2.8Mt of inferred resources.
Cockatoo said 99 holes for 9833m had been drilled in the three permit areas since the last update.
Recent drilling at the mine and at the Baralaba North project has had cumulative downhole coal intercepts of up to 25.6m, with the average at 6.7m.
Cockatoo has applied for a 5501-hectare mineral development licence (MDLA 416) over the Baralaba North resources and surrounding area in EPC 1047, with mine planning underway.
The estimated strip ratio for MDLA 416 is at 7.1:1, compared to 8.2:1 for the current mine area.
Cockatoo said two drill rigs were currently in use at the mine and at Baralaba North.
The Baralaba mine produces thermal coal and pulverised coal injection coal and is 62.5% owned by Cockatoo, with the remaining stake held by Republic Coal.
Shares in Cockatoo are down half a cent this morning to A33.5c.
