Universal reports that the 77-hole program intended to bring the project’s resource up to a measured category status includes both slim diameter and large diameter drilling and is expected to be completed in the third quarter 2012.

Third phase resource drilling at the site will include 47 additional holes and will be undertaken in 2013.

The company said the environmental risk assessment, geotechnical study and geohydrological survey commissioned in preparation of the project’s pre-feasibility study are also progressing to plan.

Berenice-Cygnus is expected to produce both primary soft coking coal and secondary thermal coal product.

Results from a concept study announced by the company in April suggested the proposed mine had the potential to produce 10 million tonnes per annum of coal.

To date, the tenement has a gross in situ coal resource of 1.3 billion tonnes.
