Wormald’s heavy vehicle foam waterspray and dry chemical passed stringent tests conducted by an independent government agency and surpassed the stringent SSL appraisal specification requirements.

The Wormald Heavy Vehicle Fire Suppression (HVFS) system and the ANSUL dry chemical system have been designed for installation onto heavy vehicles servicing underground mines.

SSL announced in January a new listing category designed specifically to cater for HVFS in an initiative to set minimum standards and reduce the costly fire damage resulting from untested and unproven fire suppression systems.

Recognised by the insurance industry, an SSL approval listing is granted to a company only after their system has been through rigorous testing on all components, materials and various combinations of full-scale test fires.

The stringent environmental component tests, normally applied to railway locomotives and military vehicles, set a benchmark that fire suppression systems must pass if they are able to promptly and effectively extinguish any fire on a vehicle before personal or significant property damage is incurred.

If a fire occurs, the system is activated automatically or manually and discharges foam waterspray through nozzles positioned to protect vehicle key hot spots and critical areas.

Wormald has been designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing and servicing fire detection and protection systems since 1889.
