AUSTRAL Coals Tahmoor colliery has awarded Ampcontrol a contract in excess of $1 million for the ...

The New South Wales mine is currently undergoing expansion of their underground longwall mine operations which requires additional 66kV infrastructure.

The contract covers the augmentation of the existing dual transformer switchyard with the supply, installation and commissioning of a third 10MVA 66/11kv transformer, associated 66kV switchgear and 11kV relocatable switchroom. The additional capacity will augment the present 66kV feeder bays and dual transformers.

Using Ampcontrol’s in-house folded wall and roof truss construction, a modular relocatable switchroom forms an integral part of the augmentation contract. The construction maximises the benefits of off site manufacture and testing, and to facilitate removal/installation at another site in the future as the mine develops.

Transporting the factory assembled installation as a number of separate, manageable modules is a proven and viable alternative to building concrete, brick and mortar substations.

Ampcontrol’s previous experience with similar projects, new concepts and engineering expertise were among the key success factors in securing this contract.

A faster response to network augmentation requirements offer greater flexibility and the possibility of significant savings to any operation. As well as cost benefits, site works and delays are minimised due to inclement weather and the integration of site services can be greatly reduced. Occupational health and safety risks are also reduced along with environmental impact and labour demands on site which are kept to a minimum.
