Queensland mines record healthy start

The state's underground mines produced 2.59Mt during the month, with opencut mines contributing the remaining11.54Mt.

Total exports went from 11.06Mt in January last year to 12.39Mt this year. Coking coal exports rose year-on-year from 7.34Mt to 8.84Mt, while thermal coal exports fell slightly.

Dalrymple Bay exported 3.61Mt, Gladstone 4.11Mt and Hay Point almost 3Mt.

Compared with a year ago, 2579 more people were employed in the state's coal industry this January. The underground sector employed 2834 people.

Average output per seven-hour employee shift was 36.64t for Queensland’s underground Northern district, while the Central district averaged 31.61t.
