The deal involves 2.5Mt of Elk Valley Coal per annum from 2006 to 2015.

Coal sale volumes under the proposed contract increase Elk Valley’s anticipated annual shipments to JFE by 39% over 2005 levels.

Elk Valley is owned by Fording Canadian Coal Trust and Teck Cominco. Fording yesterday reported third quarter net income of $US427 million, up $US41 million from 2004.
