The MH-40 diesel loader was developed for a Chinese customer to suit cramped mine conditions but is now manufactured for overseas and Australian markets.

The Engineers Australia judges found that, given the unique constraints found in underground environments, DBT had achieved a design encompassing safe exhaust and shutdown systems, ergonomic operator cabs and controls, a patented rapid attachment mechanism all in a compact package while at the same time complying with or exceeding international occupational health and safety requirements.

DBT Diesel’s exhaust systems reduce hydrocarbons and diesel particulate matter by up to 50% and reduce carbon monoxide emissions by up to 95%.

Designed entirely in-house, the DBT Diesel’s unique exhaust system cools and cleans exhaust gas before it mixes with mine ventilation air. The system uses a catalytic converter to regenerate the exhaust gas and reduce emissions before it passes through the heat exchanger.

The DBT team was also highly commended in the Engineering Excellence category and will automatically go through to the national finals to be held in Canberra in November.

Engineers Australia is the national forum for the advancement of engineering and the professional development of members. With 54,000 members, it embraces all disciplines of engineering, engineering leadership and management.

DBT will exhibit the MH-40 at the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition 2006 from July 25-27 in Mackay, Queensland.
