The 2006 Australian Mining Technology Conference will showcase technological solutions for containing and cutting costs and allow industry stakeholders to meet and collaboratively look for solutions to achieve greater value through cost control.

The conference will be held from 26-28 September 2006 at the Hunter Valley Cypress Lakes Resort.

As a prelude to the conference, a CRCMining Coal Workshop will be held on September 25 at the same venue, concentrating on the risks associated with various “modifying factors” for the accurate and reliable estimation of coal resources and reserves.

Workshop organiser CRCMining said the JORC code requires that resource/reserve reporting for ASX-listed mining companies must be related to the level of geological confidence and the risks associated with various “modifying factors”.

Eminent experts in the field will discuss the following topics:

Quantification of geological uncertainty and risk associated with coal resource estimation and its application in coal resource classifications.

Identification of modifying factors which affect the conversion from coal resources to reserves.

Demonstration of methods for assessing the risks associated with these “modifying factors”

Discussion of priority for addressing the risk related problems.

Coal geologists, mining engineers and competent persons interested in a practical, quantitative approach to risk analysis and supporting JORC compliant resources/reserves assessments, and their conversion from resources to reserves, are encouraged to register for the workshop.
