The challenge returned to Mt Isa after an absence of five years and attracted about 60 mines rescue team members.
The teams were presented with various emergency scenarios, designed to represent realistic occurrences that could happen at or around a mine site, with each team judged on its proficiency at dealing with the situation.
The event was hosted by Mount Isa Mines in conjunction with the North Queensland Mining Operations and the Queensland Resources Council (QRC).
“Mines rescue teams play an important part in the mantle of safety for Queensland’s mine workers and the sort of professionalism that all mines rescue teams display was highlighted at Beaconsfield,” QRC Chief Executive Michael Roche said.
“These dedicated workers give freely of their time and undergo rigorous training to ensure that they can react quickly and effectively in the case of an emergency.
“This competition provides valuable feedback to the teams to help them enhance their considerable skills.”
