Celsius managing director Grant Thomas said Molyneux’s appointment positioned the company well to advance its projects in Kyrgyzstan and pursue other projects in the region.

“Under his leadership, SouthGobi grew to become the largest foreign operation in Mongolia’s coal sector,” Thomas said.

“He was also instrumental in SouthGobi completing a sovereign wealth fund financing and main board listings on the Toronto Stock Exchange and then subsequently Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

“Clearly Molyneux’s experience and knowledge of Central Asia in general will allow him to contribute significantly to the future development of Celsius Coal.”

Besides his time with SouthGobi, Molyneux was managing director, head of metals and mining investment banking Asia Pacific, with Citigroup.
