Newcastle queues swell

COAL vessel queues at Newcastle Port have blown out, with 60 ships waiting offshore.

According to Bloomberg, the queue is the biggest in more than two years as exports slowed for a second week.

The Hunter Valley Coal Chain Logistics Team is targeting 98.3 million tonnes per annum loaded in December.

Last week, from December 14-20, ships waited an average of 13 days offshore before being loaded.

As of last week, loading was at a rate of 103.4Mtpa, 317,000t above the minimum throughput estimate. Port stocks decreased to 1.185Mt.
