The locomotives are the first of 18 to join the fleet of at least seven trains required for Pacific National’s two new 10-year coal haulage contracts for Anglo American Metallurgical Coal.

Under the agreements, a total of 20.2 million tonnes per annum of coal will be hauled from the Moranbah North, Capcoal and Foxleigh mines to port, starting in 2012.

“Anglo American has been a long-term customer of Pacific National Coal within New South Wales and we’re pleased to not only extend but deepen our relationship, beyond our foundation Moranbah North services agreement with Anglo American in Queensland,” Asciano chief executive officer John Mullen said.

He said the partnership with AAMC would drive positive performance outcomes for both organisations.

Anglo American chief executive Cynthia Carroll, who attended the train unveiling ceremony with chairman Sir John Parker, said Anglo was committed to being a partner of choice for key suppliers.

Mullen said more than $250 million had been invested in rolling stock and the construction of a train provisioning and maintenance facility at Nebo.
