The new Ampcontrol Gasguard range of products has been developed utilising the technical expertise of Austech Instruments, a Member of the Ampcontrol Group of Companies, and are approved intrinsically safe – Ex ia.

The new range of products are designed, manufactured and serviced through QA and NATA certified workshop facilities in Australia providing local support with the design team in Sydney and an efficient turn around time for inquiries.

The Gasguard range consists of toxic gas sensors, a flammable gas sensor and an intrinsically safe programmable controller, providing the utmost safety in gas detection in the underground mining environment.

The new range of sensors are capable of continually monitoring toxic gases including Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen Sulphide and Oxygen as well as the flammable gas, Methane. Non-intrusive calibration can be carried out using a magnetic pen. The sensors feature an LCD display, provide a 4 - 20mA signal and require a 12V dc supply. They are housed in a robust cast stainless steel enclosure for the tough, arduous environment found in underground coal mining.

The intrinsically safe programmable controller is a four channel microprocessor controlled unit designed to receive and process input signals from various types of sensors. There are three setpoints per channel and corresponding outputs are produced to drive tripping devices and visual indicators. The controller can be setup via the front keypad or through the Modbus port.

In conjunction with Ampcontrol's range of intrinsically safe power supplies, complete systems have been designed for gas monitoring on continuous miners, roof bolters and longwalls. Systems to monitor complete mine sites are also available.

Complementing the gas detection and monitoring system, Ampcontrol also provides portable gas sensors and calibration gases.

The MicroMax Pro portable gas sensor, which Austech represents in Australia through Lumidor USA, simultaneously monitors 1 to 4 gases, is Standards Australia compliant and has many preset and field selectable alarms – both audible and visual. MicroMax Pro offers an inbuilt sampling pump which automatically changes to diffusion should the pump stop, voice assistance for easy use and comes with a lifetime warranty on instrument.

Standard accessories for the MicroMax Pro include rechargeable NiHM battery pack with 4 hour charger, dust filter and sampling hose with water trap and particulate filter.

Ampcontrol also offer the AusGas calibration gases which are available in two cylinder sizes; 58 litre aluminium cylinders and 103 litre steel cylinders. All gases are made to the highest accuracy with traceability to NATA. The cylinders are of a lightweight design, portable and disposable. Each cylinder is labeled with lot number and expiration date and the stability of each mix was guaranteed.

The new Gasguard range offers a low-cost solution for the underground mining environment without compromising safety, with all products designed, manufactured and serviced locally.

The new Gasguard range will be showcased at the Queensland Mining Electricians Conference in Brisbane in July and at Aimex in September. For further information or a demonstration of the new Gasguard range, contact Ampcontrol on 02 4956 5899.
