The first incident occurred at the privately owned Huajiazhuang Coal Mine in Huangling County in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
China Daily reported 62 miners were working beneath a shaft when the gas explosion took place. Four workers died at the scene and a fifth passed away soon after in a nearby hospital. A further 24 miners are receiving treatment in hospital.
In another explosion in a north-eastern Chinese coal mine on Tuesday, three miners were killed with 12 others missing, Dow Jones reported.
Xinhua News said 24 miners were working in the shaft in Jilin province’s Wangou mine at the time. Nine workers escaped after the blast.
Official Chinese sources revealed the mine had actually been ordered to stop production on June 4.
Rescue attempts were on-going at time of print to save the 12 missing miners.
