Over 1 million tonnes were produced from its Pikes Gully operations in the first six months of 2002. Coal mined for the quarter ended June 2002 was up 16% to 514,062t from 441,364t in the comparative quarter. The company also recorded an increase in saleable production to 366,661t from 286,648t.

Difficult mining conditions saw a drop of 30% in development coal from the corresponding period.

The company said it has continued to focus on washing all coal to suit the higher-value semi-soft coking coal market.

Cumnock is majority owned by major coal producing company Xstrata.
