The conference continues the successful series of previous IUCC conferences held every two years for underground operators, management, suppliers and technical support industries, said organiser, Bruce Hebblewhite.

“The IUCC has become established as the premier ‘industry conference’ for the underground coal industry, following on from the earlier ACIRL industry seminars and conferences,” he said.

The theme of next year’s conference is “Longwall mining – the next generation” and will cover topics including:

- mining systems, planning and design

- equipment and technology developments

- operational management and performance

- challenges facing the industry.

Hebblewhite said papers will be invited from key speakers, but he invited authors to submit abstracts for a limited number of peer-reviewed papers.

Papers should address the above topics, preferably with a practical mining focus and site affiliation, where appropriate.

Abstracts should be submitted to Bruce Hebblewhite by October, 18, 2002, to B.Hebblewhite@unsw.edu.au
