Oaky Creek fatality

Staff Reporter

A coal miner was killed at MIM's Oaky Creek No1 in Queensland's Bowen Basin on May 26. Michael Morris and Stewart Euston were part of a crew of 20 people working on a continuous miner in a development heading when a fall of ground occurred.

Morris died in the collapse while Euston was rescued and taken 80km by ambulance to Emerald Hospital for observation.

Queensland coal mines shut down for 24 hours following the miner's death to protest against the safety record in Queensland mines according to the CFMEU.
