The additional three webcams brings the total number of online traffic cameras for Cairns-based motorists to six.

“These cameras will let motorists check traffic conditions before leaving home, which means they can take alternative routes if necessary,” Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss said.

Forming part of upgrades worth $150 million between Sheehy Road and Ray Jones Drive, the new webcams have been installed at the Murgatroyd Road overpass facing south, the Mulgrave Road off-ramp facing east at the new intersection and at Kate Street facing east along Ray Jones Drive.

“An existing south-facing camera at Ray Jones Drive has also been realigned for better viewing,” federal member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch said

According to member for Cairns Gavin King, the traffic webcams make up an important part of Transport and Main Roads' 131940 service.

“These new webcams south of Cairns will allows motorists to access up-to-date traffic and travel information,” he said.
