“Andrew has accepted a senior management position back in the industry from whence he came,” the spokesman said.
“He will still be chief inspector until he finishes up in April.”
Clough will still be speaking about safety in his role of chief inspector at Coal 2015 in Wollongong next week.
Clough has worked for Peabody, Vale, BHP Billiton, and as a consultant before taking up the role as chief inspector at Queensland in 2013.
He was general manager at the Broadmeadow coal mine and the North Goonyella coal mine in central Queensland.
He started his mining career as an underground coal miner in the Illawarra area of New South Wales and until 2005 worked for the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines as a district inspector of mines based in Mackay.
