New boss sought for safety job

THE New South Wales Mine Safety Advisory Council (MSAC) is looking for a new independent chairper...

Lou Caruana

MSAC provides advice to the Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy on matters relating to health and safety in the NSW mining and extractives industry. It also oversees the strategic direction of initiatives at the request of the Minister.

The chairperson should be independent of mining industry stakeholders and while work health and safety or mining industry experience would be beneficial, it is not essential.

MSAC members include high level stakeholders representing mining employers and unions, as well as independent work, health and safety experts. A number of working parties are also convened by the chairperson. MSAC is also supported by a secretariat that sits within the NSW Department of Trade and Investment.
