The Queensland Resources and Energy Sector Code of Practice for Local Content (2013) is designed to provide full, fair and reasonable opportunity for capable local businesses to compete for the supply of goods and services for significant projects.
The second annual forum on the code was expanded to cover procurement from indigenous businesses.
In 2013-14 the resources sector made purchases of $29 billion from 17,000 Queensland businesses, which represented some 75% of all expenditure on goods and services, QRC CEO Michael Roche said.
“Successful implementation of the code of practice for local content directly results in employment and business growth in the regions and contributes to the long-term sustainability of local economies,” he said.
“The $29 billion in purchases by the resources sector in the past financial year were spread across 70 percent of Queensland’s local government areas.
“It’s easy to see from this how the sector accounts from one in four dollars and one in five jobs in Queensland’s economy.”
