Wollongong Coal defends itself against legal claims

Wollongong Coal is now defending another claim for $US39.74 million and $A18.83 million from Gujarat NRE Coke.

The company is also defending a claim from Jasbir Singh, former chairman and director, in relation to his remuneration entitlement, it was revealed in the company’s half yearly report.

On another front, Wollongong Coal is also defending an indemnity-restitution claim based on implied terms for approximately $A12 million for damages and $12 million for indemnity from Gujarat NRE India Pty Ltd (GNIPL).

These claims include $6.57 million relating to alleged unpaid loan for which GNIPL issued a statuary demand, which got set aside by the court earlier.

A Statutory demand issued by NSW Department of Trade and Investment for a total debt of approximately $3.46 million has been settled with the remaining balance under $1 million payable in two instalments at the end of November 2015 and December 2015 respectively.
