As ground conditions start to improve after a horrific wet season so far, MetroCoal has signed on Drillstralis to kick off a 70-hole program based on an 800-metre offset grid.
The project already hosts 381 million tonnes of inferred resources for underground mining.
MetroCoal chief executive Mike O’Brien said the company was pleased to secure Drillstralis to undertake the Bundi drilling and planned to start the program soon.
“Although there is still some risk of delays due to wet weather, we have taken steps to reduce any weather impact by positioning holes in more accessible areas and plan to mobilise this week,” he said.
MetroCoal aims to introduce longwall mining to the Surat Basin and is targeting 2.5-3.5 billion tonnes of total resources from its projects in the region.
O’Brien was general manager of the South Bulli longwall mine in 1991-92.
MetroCoal shares are down 1c to 31c this morning.
