Five holes have been completed out of the current nine-hole program and MetroCoal noted the early intersections were “thicker than anticipated”.
The first three holes struck both of the seams further to the east of the project, extending the known deposit area.
The best hole intersected 7.05m of both the Kogan and Macalister Upper seams.
The shallower Kogan seam intersection in this hole started at a depth of 154.2m, while the equally big Macalister Upper seam intersection began at 187.15m.
The explorer has three rigs at the project and an infill drilling program using an 800m offset grid, and aims to upgrade existing resources into the indicated category.
“The Kogan seam within this area of the Bundi resource appears well developed and is being investigated for inclusion in future resources which could potentially make Bundi a multi-seam resource, further enhancing the project’s economics,” MetroCoal said.
“All drilling is part-core with rotary drilling to the roof of the Juandah Coal Measures and core sections through the target Kogan and Macalister seams.
“As ground conditions improve following the wet season, access for our drilling rigs will improve and meterage will increase accordingly.”
MetroCoal set 292 million tonnes of inferred resources at the Bundi project in mid-2010.
The explorer aims to introduce longwall mining to the Surat Basin and is targeting 2.5-3.5 billion tonnes of total resources from its projects in the region.
O’Brien was general manager of the South Bulli longwall mine in 1991-92.
MetroCoal shares are unchanged at 32c.
