Scheduled for June 26 and 27 and hosted by the US Mine Safety and Health Administration, the gathering is part of the special events regularly officiated by the university’s School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies, a week-long gathering being held June 24–29. This year marks the school’s 56th annual event, and the first where the mining industry will be featured.

“The Mining Industry Section is planned for mine health and safety officers; training specialists; supervisors; foremen; operators; representatives from MSHA, unions and mining associations; and others interested in the prevention and management of alcohol and substance abuse in the mining workforce,” said MSHA officials and the university.

Serving as keynote speaker will be H L Bolin of H L Boling & Associates. Other presenters include:

David Anderson – Ensuring Solutions to Alcohol Problems;

Elena Carr – Drug policy coordinator, US Department of Labor; and

Kelly Lundberg – Department of Psychiatry, University of Utah.

Professional development points will be offered for attendance, the organisers said.
