Longwall Hydraulics originated as an alternate repairer for longwall roof support valves and this remains a key focus for the company. The company has been able to outperform larger competitors in this area by being more attuned and considerate to its customers’ needs. Since 1992, Longwall Hydraulics has serviced over 1 million roof support valves, including complete longwall overhauls.

Longwall Hydraulics then expanded the range of services it offered by becoming an alternate repairer for hydraulic pumps and assembling a fleet of 11 flameproof and non-flameproof pump units for hire during relocations and installations. These pump hire units are approved for use in New South Wales and Queensland.

In 1999, Longwall Hydraulics became the KAMAT pump agent for Australia. The KAMAT pump has many advantages over its competitors’ products due to its ease of maintenance and the fact that it has fewer moving parts which keeps spares and running costs to a minimum.

Longwall Hydraulics has now sold over 50 KAMAT pumps in the Australian market. This includes Australia’s largest capacity pump station at Moranbah North (1561 litres/min) and 12 of the K35060 pumps – Australia’s largest capacity operating system pump putting out 523 litres/min at 350 bar.

This year is another big year for Longwall Hydraulics as it opens a new workshop in Mackay where it will store some of its pump hire units, provide roof support valve service and offer service of Queensland’s pump stations. The Queensland market will also benefit from an expansion of its service staff who work from the Mackay workshop.

At AIMEX Longwall Hydraulics will announce its new agency agreement with K. Weinhold, suppliers of steel piping and fitting products for coal mining purposes. Hard piping, as opposed to hoses, offers considerable benefits to coal mines as there is less pressure drop over its length and it has reduced ongoing maintenance costs. K. Weinhold products are used in US mine Twentymile which is one of the nation’s biggest producers.
