The Eccles-based mine is ICG's third to go into production in the last 12 months and will work on the Pocahontas No. 3 seam that has a reserve of about 37Mt of metallurgical coal.

Construction on the Beckley site began in March last year with workers digging a 2500ft slope and two 800ft shafts for entry and ventilation of the shaft.

The complex includes a preparation plant and rail load out that are still under construction and expected to come online by mid-November.

At full production the mine will employ 180 workers.
