The accident occurred yesterday morning at a level crossing on Macalister Bell Road at Macalister, 20km from Dalby.

A Queensland government spokesperson told media the mini-van was carrying a male driver and the boy at the time of the collision.

The AAP reported the bus driver received minor head injuries while the train driver was not hurt.

The loaded coal train was travelling from Macalister to the Port of Brisbane.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said in state parliament yesterday morning there was thick fog in the area at the time of the accident, with just 50m visibility.

“I'm sure I speak on behalf of everyone in the house when I say our thoughts and our prayers are with the families and friends of everyone involved this morning," Bligh said.
