Bloomberg reported coal prices at the New South Wales port rose $9.44 or 5.8% in the week ending June 27, according to the globalCoal NEWC Index.
The price of thermal coal has more than doubled in the past year as infrastructure constraints hamper supply out of NSW and world demand booms.
At midnight last night there were 36 vessels queuing to dock off Newcastle.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported today that NSW was missing out on nearly $A5 billion of coal sales a year because of congestion at the Newcastle port.
