The Hunter-Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority reported in February the project had produced "stunning results" and a Land Management Agreement was signed to protect the largest remnant stand of River Red Gum in the Hunter.
The five-year Dartbrook River Restoration project, a partnership between Dartbrook and the CMA, aims to expand the population of the endangered species.
The project is protecting and enhancing a stand of River Red Gum. Back in 2005, the large stand of mature trees looked sick and stressed from the prolonged drought. Since then over 10,000 new RRG seedlings have been planted as well as 1600 habitat species, and earth bunds were constructed to retain flood waters around the mature trees.
The land being rehabilitated is outside the mining operations and despite Dartbrook being closed, Anglo has decided to continue with the project.
