The 33-month contract includes mining almost 90 million cubic metres of overburden and coal at the site.

Thiess was first awarded the contract for Curragh North in October 2004 for the construction of infrastructure, mining and pre-strip activities.

The Curragh North mine is located 38 kilometres north of Blackwater and is part of the overall Curragh Mine complex.
