The problem involves the installation of Ansul Fire Suppression devices, which the company said may not be in compliance to US Mine Safety and Health Administration or supplier guidelines.

“If the system on your machine(s) is not equipped with the Ansul Triple Tee (Fairchild Part No. TH2023), one should be installed at the junction between the hosing between the dry chemical canister and the hosing to the dry chemical spray nozzles,” Fairchild officials said in the bulletin.

“Also, the three-quarter inch fitting in the bottom of the dry chemical canister that feeds the triple tee should be changed to a straight fitting (Fairchild Part No. 02823) if it has a 90-degree hydraulic fitting installed.”

Mines are encouraged to inspect the hoses that travel from the triple tee to the individual spray nozzles.

In some cases, the nozzle locations on the tee may need to be rearranged, or the tee relocated altogether.

“If Ansul, or one of its distributors, have inspected your machine(s), the required changes should already have been made,” Fairchild pointed out.

While Fairchild partnered with MSHA to distribute the alert to the industry, the company will field all requests for additional information.

When contacting the Fairchild facility at (540) 726-2380, ensure you have the drawing number of the fire suppression system hoses and fittings available, as it will determine modification needs.
