Thiess wins Meandu extension

Originally awarded the contract in October 2007, Thiess has operated the mine since the transition from the previous mine owner.

The contract, which includes mine planning, drill and blast, coal mining, coal processing, and maintenance of all fixed and mobile plant, will now run to December 2011.

The state government-owned Tarong coal project, located near Kingaroy in Queensland’s South Burnett region, supplies the adjacent Tarong power stations.

Thiess’s parent company, Leighton Holdings, was trading up 0.46% this morning at $38.93.
