HWE picks up Southern contract

In a first for Capricorn Coal Management (CapCoal) mains development for German Creek - Southern has been tendered out to contract to Henry Walker Eltin. The mine, in central Queensland's Bowen Basin, is one of many operations seeking to cut costs by supplementing peak demand periods with contract labour.

The contract is for the supply of labour to conduct 7 kilometres of mains development drivage. Southern has a complete new set of gear which includes a Joy 12CM12 continuous miner, two Stamler battery haulers, and a Cram bolter. The contractor is required to maintain equipment for the duration of the contract.
