The seminar, organised by Coal Services, forms part of the organisation’s watching brief on the possible adverse health risks from exposure to engine exhaust fumes. Close to 100 attendees from the coal mining industry attended the seminar to hear about the latest development, both here and overseas.

Brian Davies who provided an overseas update and spoke about Disposable Exhaust Filter Research. See related article.

Clive Ellis, senior scientific officer, NSW Department of Minerals and Resources (DMR) outlined a current research project to test hand-held instruments on the market. See article.

Occupational health and safety consultant Alan Rogers discussed Diesel Particulate Exposure Monitoring in Australia. Rogers said preliminary research has identified longwall changeouts as having the highest exposure rates to diesel particulates. See article.
