In its 20th year AMC now has 75 staff working on projects throughout the world including UK, Indonesia, China, Africa, Spain, Ireland, India, Finland, Russia and the USA.

“The consolidation of major mining companies has been positive for us,” said managing director, Peter McCarthy.

“We have always had a very high level of repeat business, and the entry of new owners into Australia has made us better known internationally.”

A recent addition to the company’s Brisbane-based team is Hugh Morrison as principal mining engineer. He joins AMC’s key coal consultants, Neil Turvey – principal mining engineer, Dr Terry Medhurst – senior geotechnical consultant, Glenn Everett – senior mining engineer.

Morrison comes with wide experience spanning over 25 years in roles including mine manager, mining contractor, consultant, mining engineer, drill/blast, dragline and pre-strip engineer and supervisor, and contract estimator.

He has worked in the longwall sector at Moranbah North for Anglo Coal, in underground cut and flit and pillar extraction with mobile supports (BLS) at South Blackwater, with underground coal road driveage at Moranbah North, Beltana, Kayuga and Tahmoor, and surface mining truck/shovel, draglines and drill/blast at Newlands, Callide and Lemington opencuts.

AMC’s coal capability covers a wide array of expertise including mine planning and design; geotechnical engineering; performance improvement, benchmarking and mine optimisation studies; ventilation studies; valuation and due diligence audits; feasibility studies; and corporate strategic and tactical advice.
