Vietnam to slash exports

THE Vietnam Coal Corporation plans to slash coal exports to meet growing local demand.

Staff Reporter

Asia in Focus reported the state-run company would reduce exports by 2010 whilst increasing output to fill growing demand by domestic industry.

The corporation plans to produce 14.7 million tonnes of coal this year, 5.6 million of which has been tagged for export.

This figure is expected to be reduced by 2.6 to 3.6 million tonnes destined for export in 2010.

Total output is expected to rise to 24.8 million tonnes in 2010.
