Working in conjunction with electrical supplier Ampcontrol and Mandalong engineering staff, Burn Brite designed and manufactured the lighting system, complete with supply cables from the lighting transformer outlet through to the supply outlet for the Joy support control cables.
The mine’s lighting system incorporates multi-faceted explosion protected techniques, specifically engineered to provide a long lasting, simple-to-maintain system. The aim is to reduce the amount of inspection time normally required for equipment operating in the harsh underground environment.
The Ex m Isolator boxes and separate Ex e Relay/Intrinsically Safe Power Supply boxes are manufactured from type-316 stainless steel. The primary and secondary power plugs and sockets were provided with additional IP-rated barriers to ensure external moisture did not migrate into and through the cables.
The well-tested Burn Brite FLP1 luminaire incorporates an electronic ballast and high lumen output, energy efficient 11-watt compact fluorescent lamp. Each luminaire is fitted with a power outlet socket to enable a string of luminaires to be connected. Magnets and a stainless steel bracket complete the assembly and allows the luminaires to be sited in positions that suit the mine layout.
“Burn Brite is proud to have been selected to provide Mandalong Colliery and other Centennial mines with our Australian-designed and manufactured lighting systems,” said managing director Ivan Waters.
“We are also pleased to announce that with the introduction of our recently certified range of 12 VDC, 1A-2.5A, "Fully Floating" Intrinsically Safe Power Supplies, Burn Brite can now offer a total Australian Made system.”
